Pre-requisites

COMP1001 - Data Communications and Networks OR COMP5001 - Computer Networks Unless advanced standing has been approved for one of the pre-requisite units.

Unit aim

Covers the architecture, design and services of an Internet-based information system while the focus is on the Internet-of-Things (IoT). The unit provides students with advanced concepts underlying the design, implementation and management of IoT systems. Students will learn to design IoT-based information systems for applications in smart home, smart city and smart environment.

Module 1: Architectures and components of Internet of Things (IoT) based information systems
Module 2: IoT networks, sensors and actuators
Module 3: IoT fogs and clouds
Module 4: IoT protocols and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
Module 5: Design IoT-based information systems
Module 6: Ethics, security and privacy issues of IoT-based information systems.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

4 examine issues related to ethics, security and privacy issues of IoT-based information systems.
