Unit aim

Introduces students to the concept of aged care for older Indigenous peoples and Elders. Strategies for creating acceptable and accessible aged care services that encompass family, community and cultural obligations are presented.

1 identify existing care options and synthesise strategies for the design and implementation of appropriate and acceptable models of aged care for Indigenous Australian peoples
2 formulate flexible model/s of community based care and respite options for Elders that incorporate family, culture and the diverse needs of Indigenous communities in urban, rural and remote locations
3 identify priorities and strategies to enable Indigenous Elders’ access to residential aged care that is culturally safe and competent and addresses individual cultural and family obligations.
