Unit aim

Bringing together community to develop and articulate community-based Indigenous Knowledge, this unit helps to narrate community reality. Respectful engagement with Indigenous Communities will make community-based knowledge visible, and allow this knowledge to be utilised to achieve successful outcomes as defined by and experienced by the members of those communities.

Unit content

The unit covers the following topics:

  1. Best practice in community engagement with examples from within Australia and internationally. Critical analysis of the nature and dynamics of community engagement in specific locations and community contexts, including professions or discipline areas.
  2. Long-term and sustainable processes that can be measured across a range of interconnected areas such as individual and community wellbeing, economic development and stability, resource security and socio-cultural sustainability.
  3. Indigenous Knowledge as a process that is developed in relationship with community
  4. Developing narratives that can represent community-based Indigenous Knowledge to other people.
  5. Rights and responsibilities within relationships with community
  6. Urban and rural community-based Indigenous Knowledge development
  7. International Indigenous perspectives on community-based Indigenous Knowledge
  8. Developing action from Indigenous Knowledge gained with community.
