Unit aim

Provides students with a systematic approach to developing a strategy for entry into the employment marketplace. In particular, attention is focused on understanding the needs of employers in the sport, health and fitness industries and on communicating to secure a job. In this unit students will actively seek and undertake the equivalent of a three-week full-time internship with a public, community, or private enterprise organisation in order to obtain practical on-the-job experiences - while providing a beneficial and worthwhile opportunity for the host organisation.

2 evaluate their individual preferences, skills, aptitudes, qualifications and experience

4 prepare a résumé that matches their qualifications to the needs of the position and write effective cover letters and supporting statements for employment applications
5 prepare for the job interview and present themselves professionally in job interview situations
6 discuss some of the major factors contributing to successful career planning and development
7 demonstrate that they have successfully completed a 3-week (120 hours equivalent) internship with a host organisation, and critically appraise their own performance with that organisation.
