Introduces students to the science of sport and exercise and deals with the basic principles of communication, sports coaching and skill acquisition.
Unit content
Topic 1. Introduction to Sport and Exercise Science - careers and certification in sport and exercise science (inc ESSA accreditation, coaching and officiating)
Topic 2. Session Planning for good coaching practice and general coaching considerations
Topic 3. Teaching sport skills - introduction to skill acquisition - providing feedback, theories of learning, instruction/demonstration
Topic 4. Communication
Topic 5. Risk management
Topic 6. The science of sport and exercise
Topic 7. The role of sport and exercise in preventative health
