Unit description

Provides students with the opportunity to engage in supervised research in a specific area, thereby gaining experience of the professional role of a researcher in allied health.  The unit requires students to develop a research question, and write a proposal, considering the research design, methods and ethics associated with the project. This unit is the second in the embedded Allied Health Honours stream.

Unit content

  1. Conceptualisation and refinement of a research topic
  2. Theoretical and empirical foundations of a research topic
  3. Ethical principles, national guidelines and ethical processes including Human Research Ethics review
  4. Research proposal development.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

1 formulate a research question that will be investigated in the Honours Research Project, and engage in critical discussion and feedback of colleagues’ research questions
2 appraise and critically review the literature relevant to the identified research question and research proposal, making clear the background and significance underpinning a written research proposal
3 identify and explain the ethical issues relevant to the identified research questions and research proposal, and engage in discussion of ethics associated with colleagues’ research questions
4 design and develop a research proposal for their research question, providing justification and support for the plan, and engage in critical discussion and feedback of colleagues' research proposals

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
