Unit description

Provides students with the opportunity to engage in supervised research in a specific area, thereby gaining experience of the professional role of a researcher in allied health. The unit requires students to explore a range of research designs and methods associated with an identified area of research. This unit is the first in the embedded Allied Health Honours program.

Unit content

  • Concepts of clinical research and evidence-based practice
  • Sources of knowledge (includes, but is not limited to):
    • Tradition and authority
    • Logical reasoning – deductive and inductive
    • Scientific method
  • Research process and types of research
    • Research process
    • Qualitative and quantitative research
    • Research continuum
  • Critiquing research
    • Qualitative and quantitative
  • Application of various research approaches and methods to an identified topic area
