Unit aim

Provides students with the experience of working with a mixed caseload, and with clients exhibiting profiles, not previously encountered. Students apply clinical reasoning, profession specific and inter-professional skills to clients with a range of disorders.

Unit content

Theory and preclinical information on:

  1. Clinical reasoning and treatment planning for clients with a range of disorders
  2. Evidence-based practice using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Framework (ICF) (WHO, 2001)
  3. Creating a Clinical Pattern
  4. Using technology to access resources for best practice

Simulated and actual clinic experience (under supervision) in:

  1. Assessing and interpreting clinical data
  2. Writing reports of finding; providing recommendations regarding intervention and planning for intervention
  3. Presentation and discussion of client details to audiences as appropriate
  4. Selecting outcome measurements to track progress of clients
  5. Applying profession specific and inter-professional assessment and intervention skills

3 assess, plan, implement, measure and evaluate intervention for clients and their caregivers based on appropriate evidence, and using relevant technologies
4 write professional reports that include recommendations based on evidence and justified with clinical reasoning
5 identify and describe the roles of members of the inter-disciplinary team involved in client management and care
