Unit aim
Provides a 6 week (240 hr) Fieldwork Placement in a regional, rural or remote setting under the supervision of one or more occupational therapy clinicians. Students undertake learning experiences to develop professional behaviours and competencies, and integrate and apply theory and skills learned in previous units. Reflective practice and the development of clinical reasoning are key components of this unit.
Unit content
For the Regional, Rural and Remote Fieldwork, a full day preparatory workshop is conducted one to two weeks prior to placement. The workshop covers the following topics: Regional, Rural and Remote living; Areas of concern ; boundaries; Assessment while on fieldwork - SPEF-R; Professional portfolio; Requirements on fieldwork; Critical reflective journal; Clinical reasoning; Initiative; Self-awareness; Self-resilience; Stress management; Time management; Management of caseload; Learning Styles; Feedback.
For this unit students have specific assessment tasks that they have to complete in order to pass the unit of study e.g. critical reflections and professional portfolio. The students are assessed by the supervisor on fieldwork using the SPEF-R (Student Practice Evaluation Form - Revised) and they are specifically assessed on the below domains: Professional Behaviour; Self-management skills; Co-worker communication; Communication Skills; Documentation; Information Gathering; Service Provision; Service Evaluation.
