Unit aim

Advances comprehension of osteopathic diagnosis and treatment, and the concept of evidence based practice and introduces exercise rehabilitation. Building on the skills and understanding gained in Osteopathic Studies I & II students will develop more advanced musculoskeletal diagnosis and management of different regions of the body.

Unit content

  • Evidence-based orthopaedic evaluation of pelvis, hip and lower limb
  • Critique evidence for osteopathic diagnosis of the pelvis
  • Muscle energy technique for treatment of pelvis and lower limb
  • Evidence-based neurological evaluation of lower limb
  • Neurophysiology and evidence-based management of chronic pain states
  • Contraindications to the use of osteopathic techniques
  • Ethical practice and critical reflection
  • Introduction to exercise and rehabilitation protocols for pelvis and lower limb
