Unit aim

Develops further the clinical skills required in the holistic assessment of the individual. Emphasis is on cue recognition of physical signs and symptoms of unwellness and disease. Practical methods for the management of common problems encountered in clinical practice will also be studied, along with legal aspects of health care practice. 

Unit content

Topic 1: Features of holistic clinical assessment

Topic 2: Clinical signs and symptoms of unwellness and disease

Topic 3: Case history taking and recording

Topic 4: Physical examination of bodily systems running parallel with Clinical Diagnosis I: gastrointestinal, respiratory, integumentary, endocrine and haematological systems

Topic 5: Integrated approaches to the management of common clinical problems

1 apply holistic clinical assessment of the cardiovascular, neurological, musculoskeletal and genito-urinary systems.
2 recognise and assess the signs and symptoms of dysfunction and unwellness, and the need for referral, in each of these bodily systems
3 assemble a concise patient record based on clinical assessment findings
4 describe core aspects of health law relating to clinical practice
5 describe basic clinical assessment considerations in gerontology and paediatrics
6 demonstrate professional communication skills
7 formulate and justify safe, hypothetical management plans for common clinical problems.
