Unit aim
Provides an understanding of the fundamental chemical properties of aqueous systems. Key areas that will be reviewed include the language and laws of thermodynamics, especially the concepts of enthalpy and entropy and their determination. Understanding the kinetics of chemical reactions. The concepts of equilibrium will be examined including activities and their measurements. Calculation of thermodynamic properties of a solution from phase diagrams will be determined for both unary and binary systems. The use of chemical models will be examined to address some chemical problems.

Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
