Unit aim

Recognises students' learning through the completion of a vocational qualification equivalent to the TAFE (or other recognised VET organisation) Certificate III in Applied Fashion Design and Technology, including the completion of essential competencies (or equivalents) as outlined by the School of Education.

Unit content

Essential Competencies
1. Use a sewing machine
2. Identify fibres and fabrics
3. Sew components
4. Modify patterns to create basic styles
5. Draw and interpret a basic sketch
6. Identify fabric performance and handling requirements
7. Design and produce a simple garment
8. Identify design process for fashion designs
9. Follow defined WH&S policies and procedures
10. Apply quality standards
11. Prepare and produce sewn garment
12. Embellish garment by hand or machine
13. Sew woven and stretch knit garments
14. Prepare design concept for a simple garment
