Unit aim

Represents the second stage of the research project commenced in the unit Engineering Thesis I. This stage involves conducting the research project formulated in Engineering Thesis I and communicating the results and conclusions in both written and oral formats.

Unit content

Students are required to work independently on their chosen research topic under the guidance of their academic supervisor.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 execute a previously developed research plan, adapting the plan if necessary as the research proceeds, and working within the available time and resource constraints
2 collect, arrange and critically analyse results at a standard expected for publishable research
3 critically evaluate research results in the context of existing knowledge
4 communicate research outcomes through an original research paper prepared in the style of a peer-reviewed academic journal
5 communicate research outcomes through a short seminar and poster prepared in the style for a typical academic research conference.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
