Unit aim

Introduces students to concrete technology, including key parameters that affect the strength and durability of concrete. Demonstrates how reinforcing steel is used to design strong, versatile and cost effective concrete structures using the limit states design concept. Introduces students to the design of beams, slabs and columns, in addition to specific aspects of detailing reinforced concrete structures in accordance with the Australian Standard.

Unit content

The General Concepts of Concrete Technology
Mix Design, Strength and Durability of Concrete
The General Concepts of Reinforced Concrete Structures
Loads and Limit States Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures
Design of Reinforced Concrete beams, slabs, columns and pad foundations
Detailing, Anchorage and Curtailment of Reinforced Concrete Structures

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
