Learning outcomes and graduate attributes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

1 differentiate between literary and popular genres and fiction and creative nonfiction
2 understand critical analysis of specific genres as well as genre writing in general
3 recognise the cultural and aesthetic factors that have determined the development of specific genres
4 recognise and understand the various conventions and writing/textual strategies that underpin each genre in both a practical and theoretical sense
5 write within the specific conventions of a range of genres as well as use those conventions in a subversive manner
6 combine a range of genres in their writing praxis.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
