Unit aim

Introduces paradigms and frameworks for understanding change, development and learning across the lifespan, with a focus on childhood and adolescence. Students explore current research and case studies to understand interactions between biological, psychological, and socio-environmental changes and developments. The unit provides opportunities for understanding and applying educational principles and practices with an emphasis on inclusion and diversity, differentiated learning design, behaviour support and critical and creative thinking.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 identify basic biopsychosocial changes and developments in the context of education
2 understand the significance of social and emotional wellbeing on learning and development
3 demonstrate how theories that inform learning and development are implemented in learning and teaching contexts
4 Identify how different theoretical perspectives including socio-cultural contexts of children and adolescents, inform understandings of development and learning across the lifespan

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
