Unit aim

Provides students with the opportunity to build on knowledge and skills developed in other Professional Experiences units through a virtual classroom teaching experience. Students extend their understanding of how schools and teachers work  in presenting lessons online, and what it means to be an effective and competent online teacher.

Unit content

Module 1: Professional Development – where to now? This module requires students to attend online tutorials.

Module 2: Professional Experience This module requires students to undertake a an online professional experience block. This must be completed during the study period.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 knowledge, respect and understanding of the social, ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds and how these factors may affect learning
2 knowledge and understanding of students' skills, interests and prior achievements and their impact on learning
3 knowledge of the available professional development opportunities and the importance of personal planning to ongoing professional growth
4 an understanding of the importance of involving parents and caregivers in the educative process and the use of a number of strategies to seek that involvement
5 the capacity to work effectively with external professionals, teachers' aides and community-based personnel to enhance student learning opportunities
6 the capacity to liaise, communicate and interact effectively and appropriately with parents, caregivers, colleagues, industry and the local community. On completion of the professional experience placement students should have achieved the Graduate Teacher Standards.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
