Unit aim

Introduces students to the concept of the professional learning community and the research literature on successful elements of professional learning. Explores appraisal and performance frameworks as means of monitoring and promoting professional learning. Encourages the development of a culture of reflective practice as an essential part of quality leadership in education.

Unit content

Topic 1: Leading teaching and learning in schools. 

Topic 2: Building a professional learning community.

Topic 3: The educational leader as learner: Developing self reflexivity. 

Topic 4: Appraisal and performance frameworks and the AITSL Standards. 

Topic 5: Internal and external professional development for teachers and leaders. 

Topic 6: Learning from teachers, students, parents and the community.
