Unit aim
Explores the philosophical, social and political influences impacting on the movement to develop workplaces as learning communities. Students consider models of leadership which support learning communities and the importance of partnership and collaboration, applying these ideas through an analysis of their own workplace contexts.
Unit content
1. Historical and contemporary perspectives on the development of learning communities.
2. Philosophical, social and political influences on notions of community, learning and professionalism
3. Leadership and collaborative decision making in the professional learning community
4. Workplace learning and professional development in the professional learning community
5. Processes and strategies for the development of a learning community.
6. Sustaining learning communities
7. Leadership self-analysis: Reflecting critically on personal leadership skills and the policies and practices of the workplace.
Learning outcomes
