Unit aim
What does the discovery of a fossilised pinkie bone in southern Siberia have to do with an earthworm in the Amazon and a dairy farmer in Nimbin? Web of History offers a chronological and conceptual journey through pre-history, ancient history and modern history to situate the present and imagine the future. The unit explores critical concepts in historiography including sources, scale, significance, change, continuity, context, contestability and consilience. Web of History draws on new perspectives in Big History, Deep History and Evolutionary Psychology to encourage explorations across disciplinary boundaries and experimentations with the scale of space and time. Designed with a common core and room for individual interests, Web of History will appeal to learners from a range of disciplinary backgrounds with an interest in big questions and past events.
