Unit description

Develops an understanding of communication and language requirements for teaching; the explicit nature of language and literacy, and thinking and questioning, as well as information and communication technologies. The importance of effective communication to meet needs of diverse and different learners is linked to appropriate pedagogical skills and tools.

Unit content

Module 1: Literacy Skills - Student Communication

Module 2: The Teacher's Toolbox

  • Using language effectively in the classroom (reading, writing, speaking and listening)
  • Developing listening skills and techniques to engage students in discussion
  • Devising appropriate student group structures to address teaching and learning goals
  • Developing thinking skills and using questioning techniques designed to support learning
  • Strategies for inquiry learning.

Module 3: Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)

  • ICT theory, concepts and skills. ICT theory, concepts and skills.
  • Integration of ICT applications for KLAs in secondary education.
  • Computer Skills Assessment (Diagnostic self- assessment).

3 discuss policies, practices and strategies regarding diversity, difference, equity and access, and special needs of students, to achieve effective communication
4 evaluate the potential for and relevance of information and communication technologies to enhance learning and teaching in key learning areas and adapt innovative technologies using inclusive approaches to support student learning needs
