TCH10272 Curriculum Specialisation: Technology Studies II

Unit aim

Assists students to program units of work and plan assessment strategies for TAS Stage 6 subjects. Students will review the Board of Studies assessment requirements for the Higher School Certificate and develop pedagogical approaches and strategies relevant to TAS. Assists students to manage the production of HSC Major Projects. Students are introduced to the principles and practice of writing student reports and evaluating their teaching practice.

Unit content

  1. Syllabus requirements for Design and Technology Stage 6 and chosen majors. 
  2. Innovative pedagogical approaches and strategies, use of appropriate and engaging resources relevant to Stage 6 TAS including the integration of ICT. 
  3. Developing innovative teaching programs and units of work for sequential learning in Stage 6 Design and Technology and chosen majors. 
  4. Ways of differentiating Stage 6 curriculum to meet the diverse needs and interests of students. 
  5. Extension knowledge of assessment practices including rubrics, marking guidelines and marking criteria, and the use of performance band descriptors and HSC standards packages. 
  6. Board of Studies HSC assessment requirements for Design and Technology and other chosen majors 
  7. Designing assessment tasks with an emphasis on Stage 6 TAS subjects. 
  8. Managing the production of HSC Major Projects and supporting documentation. 
  9. Supporting students in their preparation for the HSC. 
  10. Management practices including budgeting and selecting, storing, maintaining and replacing materials and equipment. 
  11. Principles and practice of keeping accurate and reliable records and writing reports for students, parents and care givers. 
  12. Evaluation of teaching including the use of student assessment results to reflect on lesson sequences and inform further planning of teaching and learning.
