Unit aim

Explores the nature of issues and are introduced to the critical enquiry methods required in the context of Arts and Business Studies. Students will learn how to write a report and communicate their explanations and conclusions.

Unit content

The unit consists of ten topics:

  1. Academic tribes and academic enquiry in Arts and Business
  2. Introduction to critical thinking: what is an argument?
  3. Framing issues in media texts
  4. Sustainability: introduction, background principles and perspectives
  5. Unsustainable development and ways of living
  6. Approaches to Sustainability in Arts and Business
  7. Promoting Sustainability
  8. Initiatives: description and discussion
  9. Report intensive – recommendations and conclusions
  10. Executive summaries and editing
