Unit aim
This unit facilitates the development of a literature review to identify and explore a specific research problem. Students are mentored in skills and understanding including literature searching and selection; conceptual framework development; theoretical framework development; analysis, synthesis and evaluation of literature; and academic style and structure. For most students the critical literature review will contribute directly to an ongoing research project.
Unit content
- Foundational research skills
- The nature and purpose of a critical literature review
- Researching a topic — accessing information sources, literature search strategies, managing the literature review process etc.
- Writing a literature review, including structuring an argument through a literature review.
