Unit aim

Introduces students to contemporary theories in innovation and design and the factors that influence the diffusion of innovations. Students develop, produce and document an innovative and creative solution to meet a specific need or opportunity. Students demonstrate principles of environmental sustainability and iterative evaluations throughout the development of a designed solution.

Unit content

Topic 1: Contemporary theories of innovation, creativity and design
Topic 2: The innovation process and factors that influence entrepreneurial activity
Topic 3: Factors influencing success, agencies and entrepreneurial activity
Topic 4: Creativity and problem solving techniques
Topic 5: Market research and marketing
Topic 6: Manufacturing and production processes, techniques and methods
Topic 7: Project design and risk management documentation

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
