Unit aim

Focuses on the development of knowledge and understanding of the New South Wales Technology (Mandatory) Stage 4 course and the materials, tools and techniques related to a range of technologies included in the Technology (Mandatory) syllabus. There is also an emphasis on the development of skills in the selection of materials, safe use of tools and equipment and appropriate techniques that will be developed through practical application in a workshop environment. Related WH&S issues will be addressed.

Unit content

The structure, teaching and management of the NSW Technology (Mandatory) Stage 4 course.

Designers, the design industry, processes and considerations in realising appropriate, ethical and environmentally responsible design solutions.

Current, emerging technologies and WHS considerations of the following technology contexts:

4 demonstrate knowledge of and skills in the responsible selection and safe use of materials, tools and techniques related to current and emerging food, textile, timber, electronics, metal, polymers, graphics and media technologies
5 explain WHS issues related to the teaching of the NSW Technology (Mandatory) Stage 4 course
6 produce a collection of practical work samples and reflect on personal learning and ongoing goals in demonstrating knowledge and skills in six technologies applicable to the NSW Technology (Mandatory) Stage 4 course
7 demonstrate knowledge of designers, the nature of their work, the processes they follow, and the factors that influence their decisions
