Unit aim

Focuses on students' knowledge and understanding about issues related to social and emotional wellbeing, reflecting a person's capacity to function well in society and lead a fulfilling and productive life. The concepts of resilience and mental health are examined and strategies to facilitate connectedness and belonging, positive and high expectations, and opportunities for meaningful participation are discussed. A particular focus is placed on children's experiences of change, loss and grief.

2 identify and discuss the causes, indicators and risk factors associated with children's mental health, including issues of change, loss and grief
3 explain the role that schools, community organisations and professions, governments and families play in promoting health
4 critically evaluate a range of health promotion models, strategies, services and resources designed to support health promotion with particular focus on social and emotional wellbeing
5 reflect on ways that various professional groups and organisations can better support children and young people's health.
