Unit aim

Students undertake a major media project, individually or in a team, and a critical evaluation of the outcome. The production will be designed for a professional media context, whether as a print, online, radio or audiovisual product. Students will undertake weekly workshops with team members and relevant staff and experts.

Unit content

Thematic material examining contemporary issues in media and technology will be made available to students in an online study guide. Skills in project management, concept development and critical thinking will be developed alongside ethical frameworks for media producers.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 demonstrate project management skills in planning, research, monitoring and devising tasks towards timely completion of a project
2 operate professionally in a media environment in relation to collaborators, clients, supervisors or community partners
3 present work-in-progress reports to an audience of peers, in a professional manner and to a high standard
4 demonstrate a capacity to respond to critical feedback
5 produce a substantial media project demonstrating advanced media production skills appropriate to a publishable major product.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
