Unit aim
Introduces students to management concepts and practices, focusing on developing a diabetes service which is adaptable to a wide variety of settings. Principles of business management and entrepreneurial ideas will be explored along with the growing areas of primary care and private practice. Students further develop their awareness and understanding of systems for effective chronic disease prevention and management, including The Chronic Care Model. Students will understand their scope of practice as a diabetes educator and the role of the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA).

- Research and evidence based practice
- Role and scope of practice of the Credentialled Diabetes Educator
- Models for effective chronic disease prevention and care
- Health promotion and disease prevention strategies
- Primary care and private practice
- Managing a diabetes service
In addition, students complete 40 hours of clinical practicum within an approved diabetes service to consolidate their learning as clinicians.
