UG Coursework Unit
Introduces the fundamental principles of soil mechanics and their application. Students will develop a basic knowledge of how the mechanical and structural properties of soil underpin the design of engineered structures.
Water flow through soils - hydraulic conductivity
In situ soil stresses
Compressive strength of soils
Shear strength of soils
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
|On completion of this unit, students should be able to:|
|1||apply analytical methods to determine stresses and strains in soils under load|
|2||demonstrate understanding of the flow of water in soils.|
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
- apply analytical methods to determine stresses and strains in soils under load
- demonstrate understanding of the flow of water in soils.
- No prescribed texts.
