Unit aim
Focuses on basic biomechanics and an understanding of gait and mobility and provide a basis for the understanding of neural processes involved in the control of movement. Students will also learn how capture and interpret data recorded by biomechanical equipment, and how to apply this knowledge to the human locomotion system.
Unit content
Kinematic and Kinetic concepts
- Locomotion, clinical gait analysis and analysis of dynamic movements
- Tissue properties and their relationship to gait
- Electromyography and muscle activation
- Kinesiological Analysis- Hip, Knee, Foot & Ankle
- The structural considerations of posture and core Stability
- Visual and perceptual contribution to movement
- Open and closed loop control models
- 2D and 3D analysis of gait and mobility
