Unit aim

Further develops the concepts of Functional Anatomy of the Lower Limbs and Foot and Ankle. Students will learn anatomical terminology and knowledge of the gross anatomy of the lower limb and foot and ankle components of the musculoskeletal system.

Topic 1: Anatomy of the human nail

Topic 2: The foot

  • The forefoot
  • The midfoot
  • The rearfoot

Topic 3:The ankle

  • Soft tissue landmarks
  • Structure and function of the ankle

Topic 4: The lower leg

  • Musculoskeletal anatomy
  • Vascular systems
  • Neurological systems
  • Angiosomes, angiotomes and venosomes

Topic 5:  Abnormal anatomy
