Unit aim
In this unit there is a strong emphasis on learning practical skills for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of human movement, including ethical aspects of research with humans. Students will apply the principles of biomechanics, with other areas of kinesiology, in the analyses and reporting of selected human movements.
Unit content
This unit will cover: Quantitative data sampling and processing techniques; temporal, kinematics and kinetic profiles fundamental to healthy and clinical gait analysis; ethical issues related to biomechanical research and movement analyses; qualitative and quantitative kinematic analysis including development of a research question, preparation of an informed consent form, data collection, analysis and report including a comparison of the results with the literature; methods related to assessing muscle activation patterns and understanding muscle activation patterns for healthy and pathological gait.
