Unit aim

Provides an overview of the pathophysiology of various disease states of the cardiovascular, renal, reproductive, musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Places a focus on understanding disease processes from the cellular level through to the levels of organ and system emphasising microbiological and pharmacological principles, which underlie many treatment regimes.

Topic 5: Disorders of the male and female reproductive systems

2 explain features of inheritance, gene expression and genetic changes for selected genetic and congenital disorders
3 describe selected neoplasms with respect to their type, risk factors for development, and signs and symptoms
4 contrast the mechanical, physiological and biochemical changes found in selected disorders to normal anatomy and physiology
5 justify a diagnosis for selected cases based on differences in clinical presentations
6 critically analyse selected pharmaceutical and natural therapies with respect to their safety and efficacy
7 critically analyse specific patient presentations, with emphasis on identifying safety concerns.
