Unit aim

Enables students to complete a major creative project or to develop advanced-level technical skills related to their creative practice, spanning disciplines such as painting, design, sculpture, printmaking and new media. The unit fosters independent study and studio-based learning, while also offering group supervision for students working within similar creative areas.

Unit content

As well as facilitating the advancement of specific creative skills proposed by individual students, this independent-study unit is also designed to assist in developing advanced project-based skills, including the ability to plan, implement, reflect on and communicate self-directed creative projects. Students will:

  • Propose a creative arts project or area of technical development.
  • Undertake research and studio-based practice in consultation with an appropriate supervisor.
  • Document their project.
  • Provide evidence of the project's impact on the development of practical or creative skills.
