AGR00214 - Soil Processes

Unit aim

Examines the causes, the prevention and the rehabilitation of various forms of land degradation. These forms include: soil erosion by wind and water; soil structural degradation; acidification; mass movement; salinity; water repellence and biological degradation. The design of soil conservation structures, the economics of land degradation and land capability classification are also examined.

Unit content

  • Soil erosion by water and wind
  • Soil structural degradation
  • Soil acidification
  • Water repellence by soil
  • Salinisation
  • Land capability classification
  • Soil conservation structure design
  • Acid sulfate soils and their management
  • Mass movement

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
