Unit aim

Students will develop regenerative strategies to modify and manage rural or urban farm enterprises through applying life-cyle assessment techniques. A suite of tools, including grazing, fire, (no) tillage; biological fertilisers; composting, syntropics, agroforestry, cover cropping and ecologically based pest, weed and disease management are applied in a case study context.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 describe a range of strategies of regenerative agriculture including agronomy and livestock management
2 identify and apply ecological strategies to address weed, pests and disease issues
3 apply a life cycle assessment framework to identify farm characteristics in a case study context, including natural capital, agricultural capital, agricultural enterprise/s, human resources and the financial system
4 develop and effectively communicate a whole farm plan that applies a mix of strategies to move towards a more regenerative agricultural social, environmental and economic system.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
