Unit aim
Introduces students to many of the issues associated with the management of water resources with a focus on issues relating to ground and surface water. The unit draws on the sciences of hydrology, climatology, chemistry, biology, aquatic ecology and soil processes.
Unit content
The unit examines the major issues effecting global surface and groundwater resources. It involves understanding the concepts of water transport in the environment, the major types of contamination that affect water resources, and the application of quantitative tools in the study of water management. Topics include:
- History of water management
- Climate and water resources
- The water cycle
- Groundwater resources
- Surface water resources
- Case studies of major water and catchment issues
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to: | GA1 | GA2 | GA3 | GA4 | GA5 | GA6 | GA7 | |
