Unit aim

The unit introduces students to corporate governance practices, regulations and guidelines. The abuses and excesses in global financial markets and the exponential growth of institutional investors have transformed the roles of shareholders, managers, and directors of publicly held companies. This unit critically analyses how modern corporate governance has evolved, the trends and changes taking place and the likely impact of those changes. Students develop skills in solving advanced and emerging corporate governance problems and communicating this information in organisations.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 Integrate advanced theoretical corporate governance knowledge across a range of business disciplines drawing examples from internationally significant business cases
2 Critically apply advanced theoretical and technical corporate governance knowledge and skills to solve emerging and or advanced corporate governance problems
3 Demonstrate the capacity to exercise judgement under minimal supervision to solve emerging and or advanced corporate governance problems in complex contexts using social, ethical, economic, regulatory and global perspectives
4 Justify and communicate corporate governance advice, guidance and ideas in complex collaborative contexts involving both professionals and non-professionals in the corporate governance field
