Unit description

Builds on skills and knowledge gained in Social Work Direct Practice I. Examines effective communication within specific contexts and modes of practice, including crisis intervention, relationship counselling and family therapy. Develops skills in writing for social work practice.

Unit content

Topic 1. Communicating with couples and families
Topic 2. Communicating effectively with involuntary clients
Topic 3. Counselling perspectives, including. strengths perspective, psychodynamic approaches, cognitive-behavioural therapy, narrative therapy
Topic 4. Crisis intervention
Topic 5. Relationship counselling
Topic 6. Family therapy
Topic 7. Recording in casework, case management and counselling
Topic 8. Writing court reports and related documents
Topic 9. Communicating in public settings, including court
