Unit description

This unit provides students with the foundation for veterinary technologists in clinical practice. Students will be able to perform clinical assessment of common veterinary species, perform the required calculations to determine correct medication doses, and record their findings. Students will also develop a fundamental understanding of preventative veterinary care.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

apply observation and physical assessment of animal patients to competently identify and record normal parameters

demonstrate safe and effective use of medical equipment including handling sharps

use knowledge to competently perform calculations related to veterinary medication administration

describe and discuss preventative health care in a variety of species commonly encountered in veterinary practice while engaging in reflective practice.
