Unit description

This unit introduces students to the culture of academic enquiry, and prepares them for communicating ethically in a university context. The unit aims to develop students’ ability to apply academic integrity, critical thinking, research skills, referencing conventions, and an academic writing style, while drawing on appropriate digital sources and tools.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

Demonstrate academic integrity in assessment tasks, including the ethical and transparent use of digital tools such as Generative AI to support learning

Demonstrate critical analysis in a university context by engaging with academic texts and evaluating information for credibility and relevance

Apply conventions of academic writing, including the appropriate integration and referencing of sources

Reflect on learning and feedback to identify and action areas for improvement
