Unit description

Introduces students to the culture of academic enquiry and the conventions of written communication at university. The skills developed in this unit focus on critical thinking and analysis, academic reading, academic writing, academic integrity, information literacy and research skills.

1. The culture of university: academic conventions, language and integrity

2. Reading, summarising and evaluating academic sources

3. Making a plan

4. Putting your ideas together using scholarly evidence

5. Introductions, conclusions and counterarguments

6. Using feedback and proofreading

Learning outcomes
