Unit description

Develops understanding of the skills and how to apply the principles and elements of the creative arts. The creative arts plays a key role in the lives of children in society. Music and movement, the visual arts and dramatic play supports children's exploration and expression. Creating a learning environment that supports children's creativity and making meaning through the arts is a key focus for supporting children's learning and development.

Unit content

This unit explores creativity and meaning making in the Arts in early childhood education. Knowledge and concepts about how young children grow and develop in creative ways is addressed. The philosophical, theoretical and practical applications of music and movement, visual arts, and dramatic play within early childhood education will be examined. The nexus between theory, research and practice will be undertaken through the examination of contemporary theories of the development of creativity in young children. The skills and knowledge associated with visual arts, and music and movement, and how this is linked to creativity and meaning- making for children will be developed in this unit.

Analyse, evaluate and discuss knowledge and concepts about how young children grow and develop in creative ways.

Identify, analyse and apply skills and knowledge associated with visual arts, music and movement, and dramatic play and how this is linked to creativity and meaning- making for children
