Unit description

Expands a student's mathematical knowledge by investigating selected mathematical concepts and ideas including their historical development, present use and future applications. The unit content will help prepare education students to be leaders in the mathematics discipline in their schools by developing deeper understanding of complex aspects of mathematics. Topics include set theory, logic, number theory, complex numbers, non-linear functions, systems of linear equations and inequations, introduction to differentiation and integration, statistics and trigonometry.

Module 3: Linear inequalities, Non-linear Functions and Graphs and Systems of Linear Equations 

Module 4: Introduction to Differentiation and Integration

Learning outcomes

analyse and apply mathematical concepts and techniques to solve problems and explain their application in contexts relevant to advanced mathematics teaching within a school context

evaluate and integrate current mathematical knowledge with the historical development of key concepts to explain and apply these concepts in problem-solving contexts relevant to advanced mathematics teaching within a school context

analyse real-world problems through the use of the mathematical concepts and techniques relevant to advanced mathematics.

communicate mathematical ideas, processes and results effectively at different levels of formality, ensuring students develop their literacy and numeracy skills to prepare them for their teaching professions
