Unit description

This unit explores the role that digital media and technology play in the lives of children. Students will learn to identify opportunities to engage children in digital experiences and learn to develop learning experiences based on children’s everyday media experiences, including popular culture. Students will also consider frameworks for learning with, about and through digital media technologies while also developing an understanding of how to effectively communicate with parents and families about their child’s digital media use for play, learning and leisure.

Module 4: Intersections with digital citizenship. 

Module 5: Digital controversies.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

design learning experiences for children related to children’s everyday media experiences

examine a range of digital media that children are engaged with and discern appropriate resources for children’s play and learning

understand and communicate the role of digital media in children’s lives

identify and critically reflect on specific controversies/issues related to children’s use of digital media
