    This unit contains Professional Experience that involves placement in a school/service setting. Students must meet mandatory placement checks and provide evidence of compliance with all pre-placement requirements before being placed. Failure to comply by the deadline will result in the cancellation of your Professional Experience, which means you will be withdrawn and not be permitted to continue in this unit. Early Enrolment Date: Students MUST enrol by the date specified by the Professional Experience Team to ensure that placement can be arranged. All students are required to meet participation requirements, including compulsory attendance at the residential, either online or face-to-face.

Unit description

Focuses on students developing links between research, theory, and practice in early childhood education. Students will build on the development of personal and professional attributes and abilities for effective interactions with all children and adults in the lives of those children. This professional experience unit involves 25 days of placement in an infant and toddler setting (birth to 2 years).

Preparation for placement followed by Professional Experience.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate ethical and professional conduct in the professional experience setting with commitment to young children, their families and engagement with the early childhood community

create, develop, implement and document early childhood educational programs for children with sound links to understandings of children’s learning, child development, theories of learning, understandings of diverse families and communities and research

demonstrate understanding of professional skills to support children’s pro-social development and competencies

create, design and assess flexible, healthy, sustainable environments that support children’s learning
