    Students MUST complete at least one Secondary Curriculum and Pedagogy I unit for their chosen Secondary Subject Teaching area prior to enrolling in their first Professional Experience unit. It is recommended that students have completed at least 2 English teaching (subject) area units before enrolling in this unit.


Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

apply knowledge of the Years 7–10 English curriculum—including content, cross-curriculum priorities, and general capabilities, with emphasis on literacy, numeracy, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives—to develop lessons and assessments

develop inclusive and differentiated English lessons and assessments that address learner diversity, including students with disability, and use a range of tools—such as digital technologies—to support participation and engagement

demonstrate effective teaching and learning strategies, based on a range of current pedagogical frameworks designed to encourage the development of knowledge, understanding, skills, and student engagement

discuss strategies to assess student achievement of learning outcomes, including assessment 'for', ‘as’ and 'of' learning, to recognise how learners use their current understanding to discover, develop and incorporate new skills, knowledge and understanding, and to report on the achievement of learning outcomes
