Full-time students are advised to take this unit at the same time as SWRK6001 Social Work across the Lifespan. Students are required to meet participation requirements in this unit. Attendance is compulsory. All online students must attend a 3.5-day residential and Gold Coast students must attend four seminars across the term. Further details, including dates, will be advised via the Blackboard site. This unit should be completed after SWRK5001, SWRK5002, and SWRK5004.
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
critically analyse and apply different theoretical approaches to group work and community development practice in social work
critically analyse the potential for group and community work to address social justice and human rights concerns, particularly with respect to cultural safety and linking the local with the global
demonstrate skills and critically reflect on own contribution, engagement and knowledge in working with diverse groups and communities
critically analyse different modes of group and community work and the implications for practice, articulating this through diverse media
